Memorial Day 🇺🇸

Memorial Day: Parades, barbeques, parties, sales, and all the trimmings. Great. Enjoy yourself, but give a moment to cut past the superfluous rituals and think of the thousands who have died serving this country to protect your freedoms.

It doesn’t mean you celebrate war. It means you are humble enough to be thankful for people who did what they thought was the “right thing” despite the personal cost to themselves.

As a veteran, who happens to be a transgender woman, I’m well aware of the meaning of the concept of sacrifice. My sacrifice was not on par with my sisters and brothers who gave their lives when called, but nevertheless  I “get it”.

Pride, loyalty and admiration are earned…not by waving a flag or screaming opinions louder than your detractors. They are earned though quiet, unselfish actions that put momentum behind your beliefs.

Be a hero in your own heart though your courage and steadfastness in your daily life.

  1. Such a wonderful post.
My son is a fortunate Navy vet who came home. He fought in a war under a president he disagreed with on almost all issues, including the war in which my son was involved. He had friends die during their service, whether they agreed with the politics of the times or not.
People might also remember that in every conflict in American history, people banned by rules/laws from serving, hid their true selves and served and died for our country. Women, LGBTQ+, underage, and people of all different physical & mental issues.
Memorial Day cookouts or parties or sales should include at least a mental thanks to those who died hoping to preserve our freedoms. I do love the parades. Seeing veterans honor their fallen comrades is an honor.
    Thanks, Toni.
